Brennan's 2nd Grade Program

Brennan had his 2nd grade program on March 3rd. His elementary school is Cook Elementary. All of the 2nd grade classes have been studying about Heros this year. For the program they present some of them. Brennan had a part about Thomas Edison:  "Thomas Edison was a great leader in the field of science because he learned to put first things first. I can show the same leadership quality by saving my money before I buy things." He did such a great job! They had beautiful songs and one with sign-language. One song put me in tears. It talked about the leaders of tomorrow and I just thought about the world today and how we desperately need great leaders for tomorrow. It was such a wonderful program.

Mrs. Inderrieden is Brennan's 2nd grade teacher. She has been wonderful in encouraging Brennan to develop his gift of writing. We are truly grateful for all she does for our son.

Brennan's Basketball 2011

Brennan really enjoys playing basketball. He is really good at defense. He's also one of the tallest boys on his team, so he's also good at rebounding. It was so fun watching our number 8 this year!

Brennan's great coach, Coach Kim.

The Military

Around Veteran's Day, Brennan was studying about the different branches of the military. He really got into learning about each one and what they were responsible for. He drew this great picture and also wrote some poems.

Air Force
Air Force helicopters lifting off the ground
Helicopter's engines roaring
Propellers torring
Gun aiming
Bullets launching
No one beats the Air Force

Navy
Navy submarine launching away.
Anchors rising-up, boats sailing away.
Navy men jumping in submarines.
Navy waking up a ramep (sp?) into boats, then they sail away.
Divers diving in the water
Boats sinking, submarines getting holes.
Navy men falling.
Row boats heading out.
Life jackets saving the Navy men
No one beats the Navy.

Army Men
Our base standing tall and strong
Army men guarding day to night
Army men waiting for enemies
Army men loading our guns
Army men grabbing their bullets
Army men making sure no enemies come on land
If you come on land you better be keep a look out for the Army men.

Our Game Designer

Brennan really enjoys learning new games. The other day he shows me this "game board" he's designed. It was actually quite amazing. It was a combination between Candyland, Settlers of Catan and Monopoly. He had set games pieces, cards to draw from and resource cards you could buy. He would get so excited when anyone would agree to play "his game."

He has such a wonderful and creative mind. Yet he also is very detailed and logical. What a great combination!!

Sweet or Sour

Caleb's personality is coming out more and more.

For the past few months, our sweet little boy has found something he likes more than smiling.

We call it "Caleb's Scowl" and he is doing it more and more. I think he likes the attention he gets when he does it. Everyone will say, "Oh, look at him. That is a great scowl."

We'll see if it lasts until he's a teenager...

Black Popcorn

Derek is a very independent child. He is very innovative and creative with his ideas. He finds a bag of popcorn and tries to pop it by himself. He puts it in the microwave and pushes the "popcorn" button. Should have worked perfectly... except Derek had a MINI bag of popcorn, not a full-size bag.

The ENTIRE first level of our house was full of gray smoke. I was very surprised that the smoke alarms didn't go off. It took weeks before the smell was completely gone.

Every time we make popcorn now Derek says,
"Yeah, the house didn't fill up with smoke!"

Some of Derek's Creations

Derek is in his first year of preschool. His preschool is just two houses away and is owned by our friends, the Christensens. Derek LOVES going to school and he loves to come home and see his art posted around the kitchen. He is such a fun boy with so much energy. We sure love his bright smiles!

First Flower of Spring

Last March of 2010, Brennan and I were standing in front of our flower bed admiring the new bulbs that had come up. We did this every morning to measure the progress of each bulb. I remember standing there with Brennan on that particular morning and we were SO excited to see the FIRST bloom of the year. It was a purple crocus and we were just so excited to finally have a flower to look at among all the green starts. Just as we were taking in this very special moment.... here comes 3-year-old Derek. He looks at us to see where our eyes are focused on. He spots the purple blossom and in a matter of seconds grabs it and throws it on the ground. Brennan was almost in tears. I just said, "Well, there goes the first flower of the season." Now each year when I see a new crocus I think of that experience. It makes me laugh each time.
